Is there a price we must pay for consciousness?
The story that comes to mind with this question is the story of Prometheus. Prometheus was, according to the myth, a Titan god known for his foresight. He could see ahead and he could see potential. He created humans from clay and per usual, saw potential in them. He then stole fire from Zeus and gave that fire to humans. This fire, was consciousness, creativity, and ideas.
This of course, made Zeus mad. It made it so the humans now could create and therefore BE like the gods. Prometheus paid a price. He was chained to the side of a mountain where an eagle ate his liver daily. The eagle would eat it, the liver would then regenerate, the eagle would then come back the next day and eat it again. This horrid cycle continued until Chiron offered to take the place of Prometheus. Chiron then renounced his immortality and died (hmmm…similar to another story). That was the price one side paid for the spark. But the other side? Humanity had consciousness, but retained it’s human nature. Pandora and her box were what Zeus sent and that combined with human nature was quite the price.
How many times in your life have you seen something and not been able to unsee it? For me an example would be aspects of the religion I was raised in. Once I saw what I saw about it’s flaws, and felt differences between my core beliefs and it, I couldn’t unsee. I couldn’t pretend I didn’t know otherwise or roll back the knowledge I’d gained. What I received in that awareness was incredible and life changing. However the price was numerous relationships, reputation, and community. There can be a cost and that cost can still be worth it. Whether the cost is worth it is not the question. The question is simply ‘‘is there a price?’’
The answer is yes, there is. It is often isolation or rejection of some kind. Whether or not it’s worth it remains up to the individuals that pay the price.
Over the last few days I have watched more of the world around me than I usually do. One thing I have noticed that the more I’ve worked from home, the more I’ve scrolled less, the less media I’ve consumed- the more immersed in my own little bubble world I became; the farther away I have felt from the reality of suffering, human nature, and whatever means the opposite of peace. It was nice preserving my mental health a bit, but I realized that if I wasn’t checking in with humanity from time to time, I would become the dreaded ‘out of touch’. Part of what developed the abilities I have with recognizing emotions, patterns, and probabilities came from experiencing the range of experiences we have here as humans: the good, the bad and the ugly. Spot on intuition was the awareness, having to take a seat on the struggle bus more than I wanted was the price. Remaining in a peaceful and bubbled state would stop progression. That would be the absence of price because there would be the absence of new awareness. It would flatline any type of intuitive growth.
The answer is not to throw myself in to every experience possible and just get on that rollercoaster. The answer to enjoying that peace but also growing in awareness through participation in humanity and then finding a balance between the two. It’s figuring out how to remember what it means to be human but not forgetting I am also more. It’s so easy to get off balance and wind out disconnected from humanity or the divine. It seems to swing both ways. It seems the price is steeper when the swing is deeper. Lately, it’s been trial and error in determining where the sweet spot is, the balance…which at the end of the day is trying to identify the price.
Being connected to and aware of the extents of human nature can bring things like anxiety, depression…but also joy, love, courage, growth. So to find balance I ask, what am I choosing to experience most? Am I experiencing more than one side of the spectrum of emotion and/or experiences? This means on a bad day with lots of anxiety filled experiences or too many Aaron Parnas updates I choose to say hey…lets look intentionally for something that will make me laugh now. Or listen to that one podcast that always helps me feel peaceful. I have to intentionally seek the good, the other side of humanity, to find balance.
The reason I bring any of these things up is because when I tuned in to this week I had two things come to mind: Uranus and Neptune. The myth that describes the energy of Uranus is the story of Prometheus. Uranus brings the spark, the fire, the higher consciousness. It knows the patterns and how the world works so it can give you the sudden awareness of how to break the pattern or use it to your advantage. It is an outer planet which means it impacts the collective more than the individual. But the awareness it brings always comes with a price. The prices is not typically in awareness of the individual that possesses the sudden spark. Also typically not seen by the idealist, or by those lacking in awareness or immersion in to human nature- those who are out of touch. Sometimes though, the advancement or spark it brings looks like more problems to solve or bigger, more complicated problems. Uranus doesn’t seem to care which direction we move with awareness. We can use it to move forward or we can use it to move backward.
Uranus is also revolution. This week I did a reading where the individual has a daughter going off to college. Some of the information I received during the reading was something would happen later on that might make her daughter want to go back home before graduating. When I asked what that thing was I saw storm clouds and symbols for war. What kind of war? I don’t want to speculate. The only thing I want to pay attention to is the price. Uranus will move in to the sign of Gemini making the focus on cycles ending. Astrologically it spells revolution and lines up with what I saw in that reading. Last time the incoming placement happened it coincided with the Enlightenment- which we all know was an incredible period of new awareness. Is the incoming revolution of whatever kind coming with a fire that sparks and lights us up to move forward? Another Enlightenment? Or will we move farther backward? Or will it be a stalemate? Can we anticipate the price? Does our outcome change if we can simply be aware of the price? And how can we use that information to better discern?
When I saw that energy of Uranus it was met with Neptune. Neptune is the planet of intuition but it’s also the planet of delusion. The way Neptune felt made things feel foggy…harder to discern…complicated. Putting the two energies together, it is very possible that everything heading our way might just be complicated, harder to navigate or anticipate the price… whatever those advancements are. Everything that advances in the future feels a bit complicated right now. There is so much good, but we have to be aware of the underbelly as much as possible. For a while though, for whatever reason, it might be harder to see the underbelly. I see it hidden behind fog. So if you miss an intuitive hit, you get it wrong, you don’t see something exactly as it is right away…don’t kick yourself for it. We are just coming in to a time where it might be complicated and harder to see. You’ll need both your brain and your intuition to work together and this will allow you to simply know that an underbelly exists below the fog, even though you don’t see it.
This energy in general feels like its a ways in to the future (so not this week) but for some reason this is one of those things to practice now. Starting to pay attention to what it looks like to have a balanced existence in the world. Are you connected to humanity and also peace, therefore allowing for more expansion? Asking, what is the cost of advancement or actions? Is there an underbelly I’d rather not see or be aware of here? Does this make problems more or less complicated? What kind of problems could this create? What is under the fog? Even if there’s no fog yet, get in a habit of asking and looking. You will only see what you are willing to see. Be willing to see. Just be neutral as much as you can be. Then whenever these energies come together in whatever future combo that is, you’ll be adequately skilled and practiced in using your critical thought and intuition together. That’s the combo needed to navigate what’s ahead.
In other news it was a new moon yesterday. I did not pay attention to this new moon because I did what new moons are known to make people do…I went to bed early. New moon energy lasts about 3 days so if you’re asking “is it the moon making me ___?” Meh. Probably. Maybe. See if after three days you feel better and then you’ll know.
